We took our second Costa cruise earlier this year on Serena. Bearing in mind the fantastic price £550 for 11 days this was a great value holiday. It makes a refreshing change to be surrounded by none English speakers. (Still nice to see signs etc written in English first)
As long as you accept this is an Italian cruise and dont expect everything to be the same as American ships you will enjoy it. The food is on par with other lines with lunch in the restaurant and pasta being particulary good.
The main draw for anyone who drinks more than one drink a day must be the X1 package what a bargain. We were a party of 5 adults and 5 kids and saved over £1000.
The port info is at best patchy so do your homework before you go.

What is the x1 package. Is it available on all costa ships and do you have to organise it before you go. We are going on a costa cruise on the fortuna in october and yes we definitely will be drinking more than 1 drink a day!

X1 is available on all ships needs to be booked at least 14 days in advance through the agent you biiked with. Charge per day in euros worked out at £7 per day last time. Gives you unlimited wine (by the glass in buffets) and by the bottle in restaurant, unlimited beer, bottled still and sparkling water and canned soft drinks. By your second night bottles will be waiting on your table. Even though only sold to adults your waiters will still bring drinks for any kids you may have. Enjoy!
