On the Costa Magica 1 -8th August around the med. This is our 5th cruise, but first with Costa. Sailed from Barcelona. Embarkation was exhausting. Travelled with my Mother who walks with a walking stick. Was given Priority Boarding Card to get onboard - this didn't make any difference at all - everyone just surged forward and we still had to stand in a very long queue. The crew were not trained in helping people with walking difficulties at all - no help getting on or off the ship. Excursions were a nightmare, not in English! Usually people with walking difficulties can get ashore for excursions ahead of everyone else, not on Costa Magica - we were last by the time we arrived at the buses! On disembarkation we asked for help this took about 30 minutes to organise a wheelchair as taxis were quite a bit away.Think twice if you are not able bodied! Food was excellent. The self service restaurant was a nightmare, again, no help from crew. We tried to avoid it. All anouncements were in Italian and English was the 6th language to be announced - the language barrier was quite a problem.
Quality of Food2
The dining hall was very nice and the food was superb. The self-service was a "free for all" a bit chaotic. Families with children could have sat together in the dining hall as they were running around, lying on the floor and unruly - the Italians were very laid back about how their children behaved.
Entertainment2
The entertain was diverse, perhaps because of the language barrier.
Shore Excursions2
This was difficult, as getting on and off ship with someone with walking difficulties was hard - no help from crew. Wasn't allowed off ship first - so arrived at buses last! We got refund on excursions as they were not in English!!!!
Staff2
cabin boy great. Waiters at table great. Again Crew need to be trained to help more with someone with walking difficulties, you needed to ask for help!
