Costa Cruises Break World Record!
Costa Cruises made history on Sunday 15th June in Sydney, Australia by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest pizza line, as part of the line’s 60th birthday celebrations. 826 freshly-cooked pizzas stretched 221 metres and were lined up on Norton Street in Sydney’s Italian Quarter. The line was the same length as Costa Classica, which will be based in the Asian Pacific from May 2009. Thousands turned up to watch the spectacle, and as soon as the Guinness World Record adjudicator announced that the record was broken, the pizzas were collected by the food rescue organisation OzHarvest for delivery to local charities for the homeless. Costa Cruises also donated £5 for every pizza, with locals also participating – which raised over £2,500 for charity. Over 500kg of flour, 250 litres of tomato sauce and 350kg o mozzarella cheese was used by the twenty-five pizza-makers – led by Sydney chef Ashley Hughes from the restaurant Alio. Costa Cruises Sales and Marketing Director (Pacific-Asia), Dario Rustico, said “Italians know how to celebrate in style, and this record-breaking pizza line will no doubt be remembered for some time. I can think of no better way to celebrate Costa Cruises’ 60th birthday in Australia, than to work with the local community and charities on this event.” |
